Solar Eclipse in Aquarius: Lightining in a bottle

The more I move through it, the more the astrology of this month astounds me.  What were mere concepts as I began looking at it last December have shifted into a lived experience.  Personally, I feel as though I am awakening from a time of deep gestation.  That’s the Aries energy I keep speaking about, what has been dormant reawakens.

Early tomorrow morning, the fierce momentum of this continues with a Solar eclipse that also happens to mark us moving into the year of the Fire Horse.

The roots of astrology lie in eclipses. Early astrologers believed the world was full of enchantment and saw the skies as a tablet upon which the Gods were writing messages. Imagine how it felt as an ancient when it suddenly became night for about five minutes during the day, and within a few days, a leader died or a war began.  Equally with lunar eclipses, imagine the Moon turning blood red in the sky;  eclipses bring change.

The early part of this year, of which February is the most intense, we are amidst a process of great change. A continuum of sorts. It isn’t just Saturn and Neptune moving into Aries, or the first eclipse taking place at the last degree of an air sign, marking the entrance into the year of the Fire Horse, followed by the first exact conjunction of Saturn and Neptune in 6000 years. All of which are a lot on their own: We are shifting from earth and water into Fire and Air.

You might say each of the two pairs, earth and water, fire and air, is comprised of sister elements. They are deeply connected and of similar quality. In traditional astrology, earth and water are both seen as cold, while air and fire are seen as hot.

Perhaps you are better at spontaneous change than I am. Personally, I have to reflect first before I catch a glimpse of the road ahead.  Which is why I create rituals and exercises to ground me. Reflecting on the changes in my personal life, across the landscape of my life, since March of 2023, when Saturn first entered Pisces, has been illuminating. Sort of like looking at how a puzzle piece fits together;  before you get a clear idea of where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been.

This eclipse is tightly square Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, bringing extra volatility. Uranus is the planet associated with revolution and lightning. The universe is trying to get your attention. This eclipse shakes things up. Basically:  expect change and embrace it.

Those of you with planets at late degrees in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) or early degrees in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces), anywhere from 26°(fixed) to 2° ( mutable), will be most activated by the eclipse.

While solar eclipses take place during New Moons, they don’t function in the same way.  Eclipses are notoriously unstable. There are mixed opinions about setting intentions during an eclipse. Personally, I feel rather neutral about this, and I admit I won’t be doing it, but that is because I am focused on the larger picture of what is unfolding across the month and how it relates to the bigger picture of the year.  It is such a reset, the more I dive in, the more I am filled with wonder, even that we are all alive at such a time.

Three days later, Friday, February 20, at 11:53 am ESt/9:53 am PST, the exact conjunction of Neptune and Saturn takes place at the Aries point. We are already in this energy, and have been since Saturn moved into Aries last week; it simply peaks at the exact moment.  In the same way, we are already in the eclipse energy; it simply peaks tomorrow at 7:01 am EST/4:01 PST.

Throughout this period, whatever structure in your life no longer supports your growth, you may need to bid farewell. That’s the essence of change. It’s clearing the way for new growth.

This is a great time to declutter, whether literally in your home or car, or your mind.

Eclipses are moments when the light shifts and destiny pivots: something closes, something sparks, and we stand at the edge of the life waiting for our yes.

This is a time of cultivating the courage to move forward and trust our hearts. Over the next few months, we are essentially entering a new era.  We are being invited to step toward the future our soul is ready to inhabit.
